Up to $50,000 in Government Funding for Battery Systems on BC FarmsNew Post

The BC Beneficial Management Practices (BMP) Program provides 30% cost-share funding up to $50,000 for farms replacing diesel-powered equipment with battery systems, with a $100,000 lifetime cap per farm through March 2028. Projects that demonstrate measurable GHG reductions — like replacing a diesel generator with batteries — may receive priority through CleanBC funding. You can also stack BMP with other government programs as long as total government funding doesn't exceed 100% of project costs.

What Battery Projects Qualify
3302.4 — Electric battery packs replacing fossil-fuel engines. The most direct fit for standalone battery systems.

3303 — Alternative energy technology and supplementary energy storage. Covers solar-plus-battery systems replacing diesel-dependent farm energy.

3302.1 — Electrical equipment replacing fossil-fuel equipment. Applies when battery storage is part of the system — e.g., a battery-powered irrigation setup replacing a diesel pump.

Eligibility

  • Farm Status in BC
  • A valid Environmental Farm Plan
  • An account on the IAF Client Portal.

One critical rule: do not purchase equipment before your application is approved — retroactive costs are not eligible.

Applying
The BMP program runs through March 2028 and opens new intake windows each fiscal year across its categories. Applications are first-come, first-served and funding subscribes quickly. Sign up for the IAF BMP newsletter to get notified when the next Energy & Fuel Efficiency intake opens — and have your quotes and Environmental Farm Plan ready so you can submit on day one.

We Can Help
At First Point Energy, batteries and inverters are all we do. We can help you spec the right system for your farm and provide the quotes and documentation your BMP application needs. Get in touch before the next intake opens so you're ready to go.
